oregon rises above hate
The LPGA tour features a significant number of AANHPI women - over 60% of the top 25 being AANHPI - who challenge anti-Asian hate by their skill and success on the grass. RAH is proud sponsor this tournament to highlight their role in changing historical and current stereotypes of Asian women and of Asians in general.
After the murders in Atlanta of six Asian women earlier this year, many players on the tour spoke out about the racism and bias that they have had to endure even as champions on the world stage. AANHPI women have long suffered from archaic and harmful stereotypes, including hyper-sexualization as prostitutes or the demure, obedient China Doll, in addition to misconceptions about Asians in general. The players of the LPGA defy these labels, and, in doing so, help all AANHPI community members to move beyond the limits of white supremacist ideas of what being Asian means.
Because of the diversity of its players and an appreciation for it, the LPGA has instituted a diversity policy, Changing the Face of Golf. The goal is to make golf more diverse, accessible, and inclusive. Part of this is giving voice to the different experiences of its players. You can learn more at https://www.lpga.com/diversity/.
